CMIC18 - Building Tomorrow's Australia
In the context of the biggest infrastructure boom in Australia's history, the Construction Materials Industry Conference 2018 (CMIC18) was held from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 September 2018 at the International Convention Centre, Sydney. The Conference was designed to widen the scope of information exchange, educate industry on trends and developments occurring within and outside of industry, while also providing concrete networking opportunities.
Construction materials quite literally provide the foundations for the Australian economy, with every person in Australia annually requiring eight tonnes of rock to build our schools, hospitals, roads, houses and shops.
The three day Conference provided an opportunity to look towards the future, with industry leaders and key experts encouraging participants to think about the opportunities and challenges in innovation, technology, economics, politics, energy and workplace diversity.
To better understand the uncertain and changing domestic and global landscapes, participants were able to hear from Financial Journalist and Commentator, Michael Pascoe; Futurist, Chris Riddell; Energy Security Board Independent Chair, Dr Kerry Schott; Greater Sydney Commission Deputy Chief Commissioner; Geoff Roberts; Edelman Australia CEO, Steven Spurr; and Paralympian, Kurt Feranley, among others. In addition to the forward looking plenary sessions on Day Two and Three, the CMIC Industry Innovation Day provided the opportunity to hear over 24 "TED style talks" from industry representative on new ways of working, covering topics including health, safety, environment, operations and community engagement.
The Industry Exhibition, which had over 47 exhibitors, connected industry with equipment suppliers to help meet the growing demand for construction materials.
The Conference provided opportunities to network, with Hitachi sponsoring a Welcome Reception, Construction Materials Insurance Australia hosting a Business Leaders Lunch, and Komatsu supporting the Conference Gala Dinner featuring the 2018 National CCAA Innovation Awards.
CMIC18 was co-hosted by Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia (CCAA) and the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA) and attended by over 620 delegates. Please find links below for access to the CMIC18 photos and speaker presentations.
