Boral's Stockton Sand Quarry have developed an innovative and planned approach to the challenge of rehabilitation and re-vegetating a migrating coastal sand dune using a variety of site sourced plants, raised and propagated in the onsite nursery, before being planted into the dressed and stabilised dune. This approach to dune rehabilitation and re-vegetation was developed after years of trial and error along with a review of other approaches used in coastal environments by Councils, coast care groups and private enterprises.

Cleary Bros Gerroa Sand Quarry have successfully undertaken one of the largest revegetation projects in the Illawarra quarrying region by replanting 24 hectares of Swamp Sclerophyll and Swamp Oak Forest. This project was carried out following the purchase and installation of a greenhouse to grow new plants from seeds collected on site and to nurture tubestock suitable to enhance the Gerroa Sand Quarry Conservation Areas.
