ENVIRONMENTAL INNOVATION AWARD | WINNER: CEMENT AUSTRALIA - RAILTON OPERATIONS - WATER CONSERVATION PROJECT

The Railton Cement Plant relied on water pumped directly from the Mersey River. The water conservation project introduced an extension and repurposing of a pipeline carrying turbid water to sediment retention ponds to direct water to the old mine. The old mine provided exceptional storage and detention resulting a 90% reduction in the volume of water taken from the Mersey River and much clearer water discharging off site.

The Hon. Guy Barnett MP confers the Environmental Innovation
Award to Simon Tueon of Cement Australia.

HEALTH & SAFETY INNOVATION AWARD | WINNER: GASPERSIC CONTRACTING PTY LTD - LYNCHFORD - ROCK CRUCHER CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF A POSITIVE PRESSURE CONTROL ROOM FOR CRUSHER UNIT

This pressurised control room has been custom built based on a 10-foot shipping container which has been fully lined with acoustic and thermal insulation, double-glazed windows to provide natural light and views over hopper loader and working crusher equipment. One 'Breathe Safe' unit circulates air within the control room passing it through a HEPA filter. A second unit takes fresh air and passes it through a second HEPA filter before using it to pressurise the room.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD | WINNER: DUGGANS PTY LTD - SUPPORTING LOCAL HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES DURING COVID-19

Duggans recognised that there were a lot of local businesses suffering due to COVID lockdowns and restrictions on trade with many businesses being forced to close or change their processes. As a business that had suffered less from the impacts of COVID, Duggans management chose to provide a weekly lunchtime meal to each staff member over 10 weeks. The meals were purchased from a range of local hospitality businesses that had suffered from reduced trade due to COVID restrictions.

Award to Steven Duggan of Duggans Pty Ltd

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AWARD | WINNER: HANSON AUSTRALIA PTY LTD - STATE WIDE - LEADING THE CHARGE

Traditionally in Hanson, recruitment is targeted to individuals with previous construction experience, preferably in concrete and quarrying businesses. Thinking outside the 'normal' pathways, vacancies were advertised for diversity in experience, management skill or gender. The new recruitment process was a success with two women being employed in management positions, bringing a wealth of external experience from different industries that has benefited the Hanson Tasmanian Team.
