WA - CCAA Innovation Awards 2019

The 2019 CCAA Innovation Awards Dinner WA was held at Crown Perth on Friday 2 August 2019. These awards were conferred by the Minister for Environment's representative Jessica Shaw MLA.

Industry leaders, regulators and guests attended the gala event to celebrate the outstanding achievements across the heavy construction materials industry in Environmental Innovation, Health & Safety Innovation, Community Engagement and Diversity & Inclusion.  Throughout the night guests were entertained by the talented Adrian Barich (MC).

CCAA wishes to congratulate all of the 2019 awards entrants on their efforts and contribution to improvement and innovation this year. CCAA congratulates the following entries on winning their categories:

Environmental Innovation Award | WINNER: WA Premix - Bayswater Concrete Plant - New Benchmark in Environmental Performance

WA Premix has gone beyond traditional compliance requirements to set a new benchmark for the design, construction and operational standards achievable for concrete batching plants in Western Australia. Internationally recognised best practice technologies have been implemented at the Bayswater Concrete Batching Plant to deliver greater levels of environmental performance and control of emissions.

Environmental Innovation Award | HIGHLY COMMENDED: Boral Australia - Forrestfield Airport Link - Low Carbon Concrete Segmental Tunnel Lining

The Forrestfield Airport Link Segmental Tunnel lining is a tailor-made concrete mix designed for a 120-year service life with stringent concrete quality and performance requirements. Over 40 concrete trials were carried out by Boral to produce a triple blend cement concrete resulting in a substantial reduction in GP cement and a potential CO2 reduction for the project of 27,250 CO2-e/tonnes.

Health & Safety Innovation Award | WINNER: Hanson Australia - Midland and Gnangara Concrete Plants - RMX Concrete Plant Guarding

To improve safety around the concrete plant equipment, guarding panels were mounted on a rail system. This guard design addressed the critical elements of: compliance to current standards, reducing exposure to risks, combatting human behaviour in finding the path of least resistance and increasing plant efficiency by streamlining guarding design.

Health & Safety Innovation Award | HIGHLY COMMENDED: Boral Australia - Orange Grove Quarry - Automated Truck Load System

The overhead aggregate loadout bins at Boral's Orange Grove Quarry have been refurbished and automated to load product into road trucks without the need for a sales loader. Previously, the function of the bins required an operator to be stationed in a control cabin and load the trucks manually; this practice was not accurate and relied on the availability of personnel to operate the system.

Community Engagement Award | WINNER: Cockburn Cement - Munster Plant - Air Quality Videos
It is important that the Cockburn Cement Munster Plant ensures the local community is kept informed about its operations. This is why Cockburn Cement created a series of short informative videos about air quality in Perth, how air quality is tested and monitored an the extensive steps which Cockburn Cement takes to comply with national air quality standards.

Diversity & Inclusion Award | WINNER: Holcim (Australia) - Maternity Workwear Range
A brand new maternity range has been added to Holcim's Australian corporate and industrial workwear catalogue for expectant mothers. The new range includes hi-vis drill shirts, knit tops and pants all designed for an expectant mother.
