QLD Ministerial Safety Forum - Joint Commitment for Action

A Ministerial Forum was held yesterday, 10 July, at Parliament House with senior representatives of the Queensland mining and quarrying industries, unions and the Queensland Government to discuss an industry and government response to the distressing spike in fatalities in the mining and quarrying industries over the past 12 months in Queensland.

There have been 6 fatalities during this period - two of which were in the quarrying sector. The forum was hosted by the Hon. Anthony Lynham MP, Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy. Our sector was well represented by a number of senior leaders from member companies, as well as CCAA State Director Aaron Johnstone. There was a broad consensus from all forum attendees that there needs to be a concerted effort by industry and government to ensure there are no more fatalities in our sector. CCAA will be working with members to formulate plans on specific aspects of the Communique, particularly how the "Safety Reset" will be structured, as well as developing comprehensive industry submissions to the legislative reviews flagged in the Communique. Details of a joint Communique can be found here.
