Overview

This course has been designed to provide participants with an overview of all aspects of making quality concrete – from the materials and properties involved through to the planning, preparation, finishing and curing.  It aims to generate a higher standard of workmanship on site and develop a general understanding of technical terms to help facilitate communication across the construction and building industry.

Concrete Basics ncomprises of 6 modules each module taking about 30 minutes to complete. There are embedded activities throughout the course and an assessment at the end of each module.

The modules are:

  1.  Our Work Environment 
  2. Introduction to Concrete
  3. Producing Quality Concrete
  4. The Science of Concrete
  5. The Importance of Planning and Placing Concrete
  6. Ensuring a Quality End Product

The course has been developed in consultation with the cement concrete and aggregates industry for the development of skills in the Australian construction industry.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Participants may be able to claim CPD points/hours by completing CCAA courses, if the individual finds it extends knowledge or expertise in their areas of practice. CCAA has evaluated the Concrete Basics Course and determined that this course meets the requirements for CPD for professional associations including Engineers Australia, Building Designers Association of Australia, Materials Australia, Asset Management Council, and Australian Institute of Building. Participants are encouraged to speak with their professional association for confirmation.

Target Audience 
The course is intended for builders, concrete placers, batchers and others involved in ordering, producing and testing concrete as well as those employed in concrete administration, logistics and sales roles.  

CCAA recommend this course be used as part of an induction process for employees and contractors new to the industry to increase awareness and understanding of concrete and the industry.


Learning Objective  
The learning objective of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of safety and environment issues when working with concrete, concrete properties, key terminology, an overview of the industry and the history of concrete as well as the importance of planning and placing concrete.


Delivery  
The Concrete Basics Course is delivered online.  Each module takes around 30 minutes to complete.  


Assessment
 
A series of learning checks are embedded within the course with a personalised certificate available upon completion.


Prerequisites
 
There are no prerequisites for this course.

CPD:

  • Engineers Australia - Type II - 3 Hours
  • Building Designers Association of Australia - Activity G - 3 Points
  • Australian Institute of Architects - 3 Hours
  • Materials Australia - CMatP - 2 Points
  • Asset Management Council - Type 2 - 3 Hours
  • Australian Institute of Building - 3 Credits

Cost:

$250.00 (inc. GST) per person.
