Concrete Practice Course

CCAA's Concrete Practice Course has undergone a comprehensive review and is now offered in an exciting new interactive format comprising of:

  • Part 1 - 14 eLearning Modules with embedded activities and assessments;
  • Part 2 - A written submission of four industry case studies.


Important information:

  • Participants should allow 5-6 weeks to complete all 14 eLearning modules.
  • Completion of four case studies is mandatory.
  • Participants may be able to claim CPD points/hours by completing CCAA courses, if the individual finds it extends knowledge or expertise in their areas of practice. CCAA has evaluated the Concrete Practice Course and determined that this course meets the requirements for CPD for professional associations including Engineers Australia, Building Designers Association of Australia, Materials Australia, Asset Management Council, and Australian Institute of Building. Participants are encouraged to also speak with their professional association for confirmation.

Overview

This course has been designed to provide participants with a detailed understanding of concrete material and behaviour in relation to physical properties, production, placing and associated on-site operations such as reinforcement and potential causes of failure.

It has been developed in consultation with the industry for the industry.

Part 1
The 14 eLearning modules have been developed to enhance our industry's knowledge of concrete and are designed with embedded activities and assessments in a sequential, easy to follow, and easy to navigate format:

  1. Our work environment
  2. Introduction to concrete
  3. Cementitious materials
  4. Aggregates for concrete
  5. Mixing water
  6. Chemical admixtures
  7. Specifications, ordering and assessment
  8. Production
  9. Concrete properties and testing
  10. Project planning and execution
  11. Managing site conditions
  12. Managing concrete performance
  13. Principles of reinforced concrete
  14. Paving and mass concrete

Part 2 
The candidate will choose four of twelve proposed case studies to complete and then complete a final examination:

  • Submissions are made through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Case studies are presented to demonstrate the acquired knowledge from the modules. The final examination is on-line multiple choice.
  • All elements of Part 1 and Part 2 are required to be completed to finish the course.

Target Audience
The course is intended for builders, engineers, specifiers and those involved in producing, selling, transporting, testing and placing concrete.

Learning Objective
The learning objective of this course is to understand concrete materials; behaviour and properties of concrete; concrete production; reinforcement in concrete; placing and associated on-site operations and cracking on concrete. Click here for detailed learning objectives.

Delivery
The Concrete Practice Course is now delivered as an interactive blended-online program comprising of:

  • Part 1: 14 eLearning modules with embedded activities and assessments (approx. 10 hours); and
  • Part 2: Four case studies and a final examination.

All modules are to be completed prior to attempting the case studies, as learnings will be referred to and enhanced during the case studies and final assessment.
Participants should allow 5-6 weeks to complete all 14 eLearning modules. 

Assessment 
Assessment requirements for this course includes:

  1. Online Modules
    Students are expected to have successfully completed all work including readings and assessments of the 14 online modules prior to attempting the case studies.
  2. Case studies
    Students are expected to complete and submit four of the twelve proposed case studies.
  3. Examination
    An examination will take place after the marking of the case studies. To successfully complete this course, students need to complete this examination with a  final mark of at least 80%. This is an open book examination and comprises of both multiple choice and short answer questions.

  • Building Designers Association of Australia - Activity G - 3 Points
  • Australian Institute of Architects - 20 Hours
  • Materials Australia - CMatP - 6 Points
  • Asset Management Council - Type 2 - 20 Hours
  • Australian Institute of Building  - 5 Credits

Cost
$950.00 per person.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course, however CCAA recommend prior completion of the Concrete Basics Course to increase awareness and understanding of concrete and/or  five years industry experience. 

Enrolment
Participants will have 6 months to complete the course and assessments.
