VIC - CCAA Innovation Awards 2018
The latest innovations across the cement, concrete and aggregate industries were showcased at the Victorian CCAA Innovation Awards Dinner on Thursday 16th August.
The Treasurer and Minister for Resources, The Hon. Tim Pallas presented the awards which recognise innovation in environmental management, health and safety performance and exceptional community leadership. They also demonstrate the commitment of the industry to continually improve its performance in these areas, to a range of stakeholders, including government, industry peers and the broader community.
“It is so important to see the industry, government, sponsors and guests coming together to celebrate and drive innovation at the annual gala CCAA Innovation Awards Dinner” said Brian Hauser, CCAA State Director VIC/TAS.

Health & Safety Innovation Award | WINNER: Boral Australia - Deer Park Laboratory - Poly Fibre Separation Centrifugre
The site engineered a centrifuge to automatically separate concrete from the poly fibres for fibre counts on fresh concrete, removing the manual handling issues of the previous “fishing out the fibres” process.

Health & Safety Innovation Award | HIGHLY COMMENDED: Holcim (Australia) Pty Ltd - Agitator Vehicle Dynamics & Driver Behaviours
Field tests using the DECA concrete agitator fitted with outriggers to simulate rollover events were used to determine real live g-force limits to benchmark driver behaviour across the national fleet.
Environmental Innovation Award | WINNER: Barro Group - Werribee Concrete drive-over slumping station
A new slump stand was designed with a steel grate over the waste settlement pit, stopping the cement water slurry coating the agitator tyres and being carried out onto the local roadways.

Environmental Innovation Award | HIGHLY COMMENDED: Cement Australia - Recycling of Fire Fighting Foam to Cement Kiln Fuel
An environmentally safe and sustainable and effective solution for the destruction of Aqueous Fire Fighting Foam through use as a cement kiln fuel.
Community Leadership Award | WINNER: Hanson Australia – Lysterfield Quarry Community Reference Group Newsletter
With the assistance of Hanson, the CRG wrote their own newsletter and distributed copies to nearby residents so that the community could have a better understanding of the quarry, the site and its future potential.
