Industry Welcomes Quarry Regulator Reform
CCAA welcomes the leadership shown by the Treasurer and Minister for Resources, Hon Tim Pallas in accepting all of the recommendations from the recently completed Earth Resources Regulation Continuous Improvement Project (ERR CIP).
The ERR CIP was initiated following strong CCAA advocacy and was completed by Anna Cronin, Commissioner for Better Regulation. The review was conducted to address the lack of confidence in ERR from the Government, industry and other regulatory authorities, delays and congestion in approvals for extractives projects and perceptions of a lack of transparency about ERR’s processes.
“Frequent industry consultation during the review process by the Commissioner resulted in a series of practical and proportionate recommendations’ said Brian Hauser, CCAA State Director Vic/Tas. ”If appropriately implemented, these will largely address industry concerns and reduce costs and time for both industry and government” he added.
CCAA looks forward to improved performance from the quarry regulator and to being regularly notified of progress in implementing these necessary reforms. Successfully implementing these reforms will help to deliver the affordable supply of quarry materials to meet the increasing demand driven by the Government’s progressive infrastructure program and unprecedented population growth. This will in turn facilitate the delivery of affordable infrastructure, continued investment into Victoria and jobs growth in the State.
