CCAA Proficiency Testing Program for Cement

This program is organised and coordinated by CCAA. It is designed to provide laboratories with an opportunity to assess the reliability of their testing facility, as well as to assess the operational skills of their technicians.

The principle of this program is that: testing of the same category is performed under the same standards, similar conditions and on strictly controlled cement samples. On that basis, by employing in-depth statistical analyses based on the data-rich collection of test results contributed by all participating laboratories, their accuracy/reliability statuses can be determined and reported.
The program is designed to cover a wide range of independent testing series, allowing participants to flexibly choose their most desirable series to involved. To name a few, important aspects such as
  • chemical composition;
  • physical characteristics;
  • heat of hydration;
  • compressive strength;
  • shrinkage; and
  • sulfate expansion

are all included.

Who can participate?

This proficiency testing program at CCAA possess a successful history of over 70 years, which attracts and maintains regular participation of laboratories from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, China and Kenya.

The program is suitable for newly-established laboratories, who are seeking a useful channel to validate or construct their basic quality-control standards. It is also ideal for existing laboratories who wish to maintain or improve their current testing quality.

General Procedures

The program is organised annually, which normally commences in late March or early April, and concludes in late July or early August.

At least four (4) weeks prior to the official commencement, an invitation is distributed to interested laboratories for their registration. Once the registration list is finalised, material samples will be ordered, carefully packed and delivered to each participant. The official start of testing, related procedures, data collection, reporting and the deadline for submission will be instructed by email. Statistical analyses will be conducted by CCAA after the submission deadline. Final analysis report will be issued normally within 2-3 months.

Within the scope of the program, CCAA strictly respects the privacy of participants. Each will be assigned with a unique ID, which will be consistently used in related communications without revealing their true identities. Also, NO private detail will be included in the final analysis report.
